The IPL must not be considered the yard stick for national team selection, according to former India and current Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad.
In a report on cricinfo, Prasad said, "Domestic cricket still remains the ultimate proving ground for youngsters even though the IPL is on top of everybody's mind at the moment. Young, aspiring cricketers have to prove themselves in the Ranji and Duleep trophies to understand their capabilities, their talent and their ability to withstand pressure," Prasad was quoted in an interview with the Times of India.
Prasad quoted that stardom is more like come and go in the IPL. He observes that the young guns certainly enjoy getting noticed and grabbing the headlines. He stresses, however, that their lives cannot be just on the IPL but more on how to prolong their talent in the larger forms of the game.
